Hair loss. Can PRP* Help?

To be specific and answer your question, YES.

Many studies showed that PRP can help with baldness, or Androgenic Alopecia (AGA) in both men and women. This is also called male pattern androgenic alopecia, and female pattern androgenic alopecia .

A study published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery on June 2019, found through a meta-analysis, significantly increased hair number per cm2 after PRP injections in the treatment group versus the control group. Similarly, a significantly increased terminal hair density was found in the PRP group compared with the control group, and concluded after reviewing 132 papers that most studies suggest subcutaneous injection of PRP is likely to reduce hair loss, increase hair diameter and density in patients with androgenic alopecia.

More studies are needed to reach a consensus on the protocol of preparation of PRP.

If you are interested in PRP for hair restoration, it is very important to discuss the protocol your provider follows to prepare PRP, the platelets concentration, and the analgesia during the procedure: as it seems that using lidocaine with PRP can negatively affects release kinetics of platelet growth factor.
